Growers support rice export by Passco and TCP

"The Basmati Growers Association (BGA), one of the important stakeholders of rice trade, supports the government decision to allow state-owned entities to enter rice trade and exports. Hamid Malhi, President of BGA, while talking to <i>Business Recorder </i>on Monday said that Pakistan's rice production has increased to 6.9 million tons this year as compared to 5.5 million tons a year back."

Turkey looks to import 100,000 tonnes of rice

"Turkey's government has authorised state grain office TMO to import up to 100,000 tonnes rice in 2010, the Official Gazette on Thursday. Sharp increases in prices caused the government problems in the past though rice, unlike wheat, is not a staple of Turkish cuisine."

Pakistan exported rice worth $1.04 billion from July to December 2009

"Pakistan exported non-Basmati and Basmati rice worth $1.04 billion during the period from 1st July 2009 to 31st December 2009, Rice Exporters Association of Pakistan sources told <i>Business Recorder </i>here on Tuesday. According to sources, exporters of Karachi, Lahore and Quetta exported 1.460923 million tons non-Basmati rice worth $662.46 million and 0.44 million tons basmati rice worth $380.46 million dollars during first half of FY 2009-2010."

Rice crop sounds like a good opportunity

"It's been more than half-a-decade that the major global economies have been grumbling and protesting that China has artificially kept its currency undervalue to promote its export. China is an export-driven economy. It has accumulated forex reserves of over 2.2 trillion dollars."
